How can you speak about something if you don’t know anything about it? Market research is the process of gathering information and data to

link consumers, to the marketer in order for the marketer to learn everything they possibly can about their customers and know what their likes/dislikes/ideas, etc… are in order to market products/services to the right customer. Without marketing research, we as marketers cannot fully understand our customers or their wants or needs. We first need to gather information from the consumer, the information needs to be relevant and informative in order for us to properly do our job.
Not doing any form of marketing research is like a student writing a biography on President George Washington, without knowing anything about George Washington or doing any kind of research, they just write the paper on what they think makes sense or sounds right. The only grade I personally see that student getting is an F because how can you write about or speak about something that you don’t know? The simplest answer is you can’t, or you can but it probably won’t make much sense.
The same can be said about market research, how can you attract more customers to buy your product(s) or fix a problem with your company or product? If you know nothing about your customer, the issues they face, their likes and dislikes, their interest, what makes them happy or sad, etc…. How’re you supposed to be able to communicate with them or convince them to buy your product? Market research allows you to know your consumers in some ways better than you know yourself. By knowing your consumers, how they think, what they do or don’t like etc… it allows for you to anticipate and know their wants and needs to best serve them and properly market your product in a way that connects to the audience.
